Nature Guide Training School
The school was established originally to train the professional field guides at Entabeni Private Game Reserve in 2002 and great success was enjoyed with these detailed in-house programs. With the extensive development of training materials and planned programs the production of many excellent and sought after nature guides began to take place. Many of the field guides trained at Entabeni moved on to some of the most prestigious and sought after reserves in the industry, and are successfully guiding there today in various capacities such as guide, assistant head guide, head guide and even camp management.
We decided in early 2004 that we would begin to bring in students from outside the existing guide team to train, and so in co-operation with other educational facilities we began a very successful program, which lead to many nature guides being gainfully employed within the industry. Some were employed as close as at Entabeni Private Game Reserve itself and as far a field as Botswana, Zambia and Kenya.
We train strictly to the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA) standards, and enjoy an excellent training reputation with FGASA, who closely monitor all examinations and practical evaluations. We are fully accredited by FGASA. THETA standards are also adhered to, with FGASA being our site. We have an experienced team of nature guide trainers who are responsible for the production of the high standard training we present, under the guidance of the principal trainer, Lee Gutteridge. For more information about the team of trainers and their qualifications please see the “our team” page. |
