Nature Guide Training

“...we come down a ridge to where we think they are, and surprises all around as we sort of stumble onto the two male lions lying in the grass. They are startled and both run ... but as they do so they run into the three lionesses and startle them in turn, well, there was some loud roaring as the lionesses basically thought that they were under attack so they start swinging at the males. So now everybody is on edge and the lions disappear into the bush.”

“Lee says “keeps your wits up, we are not out of it yet.” Truer words have never been spoken. We then see lion tracks on the same trail as us going in the same direction. Lee points to the tracks and motions for us to be quiet and on the lookout as we continue. Another few meters and Jamie spots a big male in front of us about 20 meters away, he taps Lee on the back while wheezing out “Lion, lion, LION!” While this is happening we managed to walk right past a lioness in the long grass. Now she is on the path behind us. Hansie is at the back and turns to see her following us about 15 meters back and she bolts into the bush. All animals have personal barriers known as zones. Comfort zone, Alert zone, Warning zone and Critical zone. We are all of a sudden WAY critical on two sides, not to mention the other five lions...”

“The male Lion decides that we just may be food so he starts coming for us with some intent. He had gone about three steps when Lee starts a very fast deliberate walk towards him saying to us “COME, STAY TIGHT!” and then to the lion in an even louder voice “HEY BIG BOY, I’M NOT THE ONE YOU WANT TO MESS WITH TODAY...”.”

Welcome. You have found the web site of the most professional, exciting, experienced and fun-loving accredited trainers available. We are totally committed to giving you the best experience in the South African bush! Just click on Articles to see what we get up to every month!

Please check out our articles and newsletters to see what our students do from month to month!!

We have proudly been associated with FGASA, as professional trainers and assessors for over a decade.

All of our courses are conducted in and amongst Africa’s Big Game and we see animals such as Lions and Rhinos virtually every single day, and in fact they are very often right in front of your bedroom!!

We do not have travel to other reserves to see the Big Five; we have them all right here!

We provide (fully included) services unlike any other school, as we do not believe you have come to the African Bush to waste time washing pots, cooking food and doing laundry! If you wanted to do that you would have stayed at home wouldn’t you? With us you need only spend your time learning and experiencing life in the African bush. To facilitate this we have, supplied for all courses, a qualified Chef, Scullery and Laundry team.

Our accommodation in the 6 month school is arguably the best in the industry, with ensuite bathrooms and personal viewing decks. Our 25 day school is also a cut above the rest, on raised decks, with communal ablutions.

A typical day is filled with many hours of instruction, seven days a week for the duration of our course!  On average we do at least 7 to 10 hours per day in the bush, either on foot or on a Land cruiser!

Quality not Quantity

We do not accept more than ten participants on our 25 day or 6 month courses, as we feel that large numbers are to the detriment of the student.

Our unique courses

Our courses currently include a 25 day program (including FGASA level 1, first aid 1, THETA NQF, Cybertracker Track and Sign and the Entabeni certificate) which will give you a very good view of the industry as it stands today, and the basic, entry level qualifications you need to apply for a position.

Our exclusive 6 month program also has a maximum of 10 participants. During this course you will capture game, learn about professional hunting (we do not hunt any game on our program), learn about darting animals (including from helicopters), learn to guide, learn about anti-poaching, visit the Kruger National Park and Nylsvlei, complete survival components, learn about rifles and shooting (SASSETA), go white water rafting and explore the birdlife of many different areas. We also complete the FGASA level 2 and Trails syllabus, as well as doing the exams.

NB! We GUARENTEE paid WORK PLACEMENTS, at the end of the six month course, on a big five game reserve!!

We also have direct access to a Cape buffalo, White Lions and Nyala breeding project, as well as our own fully equipped reptile centre, giving the student firsthand experience with the husbandry of these animals.

NB we also include in our fees the Annual Subs, Registration, Exam fees, Manuals, RPL’s and Moderation fees for FGASA
